What types of ear piercings are there?

With so many different kinds of ear piercings, choosing the right one can feel a little overwhelming. The main difference between ear piercings is where they are placed on the ear. Each type has its own name, placement and way of adding something different to your ear stack.

  • Earlobe piercing: The lobe piercing is the most common type and is placed in the soft part of your earlobe. You can style it with everything from statement earrings to more minimalist studs or hoops, making it the perfect base for your ear stack.

  • Helix piercing: This piercing is worn through the upper cartilage rim of your ear. A small stud or hoop works beautifully in a helix piercing, adding a subtle edge to your ear stack.

  • Conch piercing: This type of ear piercing is worn in the centre of your ear, adding a unique twist to your look. Small hoops and studs are popular choices for this placement. Prefer the look without an extra piercing? An ear cuff can create a similar statement without requiring another piercing.

  • Tragus piercing: This piercing is placed through the centre of the tragus, the small flap of cartilage in front of your ear canal. Ear piercings with a flat back are a popular choice for a subtle, streamlined finish.

  • Daith piercing:  This ear piercing is worn in the innermost fold of cartilage, right above the ear canal. Small hoops are a popular choice for daith piercings. At My Jewellery, you’ll find styles with sparkly rhinestone designs and bold dot details.

  • Rook piercing: This piercing goes through the antihelix, right above the tragus and underneath the outer edge of your ear. Delicate hoops are popular choices for this placement.

  • Flat piercing: This ear piercing is located on the flat surface of the upper ear cartilage, right in between the helix and the conch. Ear piercings with a flat back work especially well here and keep the styling sleek and subtle.

Now you’ve got plenty of inspiration to build an ear stack that feels completely your own. Let’s get stacking!
